Shadows in Noir: The Murder
The focus for today's animation was to capture the murder of Helena through projection of the action. Such techniques I've seen work well within classics such as Alfred Hitchcock's 'Psycho' (1960), which was noir based because of Hitchcock's creative descition to fit the black and white colour with the themes of the film. The shower scene of course shows little in terms of violence and thus has a greater impact; the power of suggestion. Another point of reference was 'M' directed by Fritz Lang (1931) as a German horror film where the murderer is first introduced through his shadow as he preys on the innocence of a little girl. Such artristry has to be applauded by the impact they create when nothing is explicitly show, only implied.
