By pure chance I stumbled upon a modern French film noir movie that establishes a dockside railway next to a ship. This image stood out as being a key reference for the set design of this scene in the film. What I belive to be the best way round making this set is to create it in minature and then composite the characters onto the scene for the required shots. Having a minature set will allow me to experiment and control the lighting easily when it comes to animating the scene. 'The Man from London' (2007) directed by Béla Tarr and Ágnes Hranitzky has enabled me to work from a real location that resembles the design I had in mind.
