Film Noir: Storyboarding 'Kiss of Death'
Over the past few weeks I've been studying a clip from the film 'Kiss of Death' and understanding the cinematography conventions that illustrates the sequence. Most of the observation was looking at the visual style within each shot and knowing exactly what shapes and forms the basis of the film noir style. Through the book 'Film Noir Reader' by Alain Silver and James Ursini, they discuss the visual presentation and conventions that helped when adapting the visuals and interpreting them into my own storyboard; shot by shot. Notably the book discusses 'Noir lighting is low-key' which of course explains the high contrast within the imagery and persues in 'creating rich black shadows' which determined my group to use pencils to sketch out and control lighting through the use of pencil sketching.
